My loved ones and regular readers know that moving to Peoria came completely out of the blue for me. This time last year I was cycling in Collegiate Nationals, packing for a trip to Italy, and finishing up my thesis. Then, suddenly I realized that I would do many crazy things to stay with that man I love, Mike. So we graduated, went to Italy, and then moved to Peoria.
Peoria has been a tough cultural transition. This community is quieter and more midwestern than anywhere I’ve ever lived. I don’t really fit in all that well. But the people here are amazing. Somehow, we have managed to encircle ourselves with a set of incredibly kind, loyal, and loving people. I do, however, miss my family and close friends like CRAZY.
So it is with some regret but also a lot of excitement that I announce … we are moving back to San Diego! Mike’s job will be transferring us in about 6 weeks. It’s the perfect opportunity for us to move back since Mike and my family can provide a little stability while I find a job and we look for an apartment.
My mind is full of things to do and now my stress has taken a different Β kind of role but MAN I’m excited!! I’m excited for coffee with my momma and gran. And family dinners. And season passes to snowboard. And year-round cycling. And a velodrome. And Mexican food. The list goes on and on. If there’s one major thing Peoria has given me, it’s an intense appreciation for all the things I’ve been missing for the last seven years. I can’t wipe the smile from my face.
So today…this is how my brain feels. But it’s all good stuff! This outcome has made me the happiest lady in the world π
Wooohoooo
Ash – I am excited that you guys are moving back to SD! I don’t know if its possible before you move but if you two want, we should try to hit Chicago Velo Campus before you go! π So lucky to have the velodrome right there when you move.
Yeah great point Niki. I’d love to be able to see multiple velodrome campuses. Especially since I’ve heard Chicago is pretty amazing. We’re going to try to get in one more trip up to the big city so maybe we can check it out then! Thanks π
That sounds exciting! Funnily enough, I am also looking forward to moving to California from small-town AZ (up in Flagstaff) after moving there on a relative whim. Not for a while, though. I look forward to reading about biking in San Diego to tide me over!
Oh yes. There will be much bike speak about San Diego in the next year. Bike racing, velodromes, triathlons…I could not be more excited π And maybe when you get here we can ride together! Who knows?
This is SUCH exciting news! i’m so happy for you π
Thanks Carolyn π You’ll have to come visit. It IS the American mecca of triathlons you know.
